In Cristallino project we have combined our languages and the fetish materials we are used to work with.
We have tried to find the many points of agreement of our reciprocal personal researches.
The crystalline lens is the transparent structure which is located inside the eyeball. It is the natural lens of the eye that allows to focus images on the retina.
We have started from a '700 tub and a modern vase with a clean volume: ancient and recent history of Nove's ceramic production, the physical and conceptual territory where Pol knows well how to act. Starting from these moulds, the two objects' function is canceled. The pieces are turned upside down and placed on the floor by the pedestal that the mould's end pottery has created.They become design objects, pedestals for an artificial nature's ephemeral representation. Women inside Nove's factories were employed to produce with precision and taste the flower details that decorated potteries. Small flowers moulded in detail by experienced hands.
We decided to put a composition of these flowers under glass, creating a microcosm with small shrubs and insects. A bubble of blown borosilicate glass by using the 'a lume' technique guards this composition. The glass bubble, which in Cristina's Olfattorio vases is an olfactory ampoule with the function of retaining and returning with intensity the flowers' scent, has in this case the aim to preserve this fragile and artificial nature.
As in Olfattorio's vases indeed, a deeper sensory experience is suggested. The glass bubble here becomes an eyeball, equipped with a magnifying glass, the Cristallino, which allows to admire in detail that delicate and careful microcosm created by skilled hands.
